bonsai tree?
Byi’ve never tried to grow a bonsai before but i’d like to. so i got a emerald green arborvite (thuja accidentalis emerald green) it was on sale so i figured a good first plant in case i kill it but i cant find anyone on the web that has turned one of these into a bonsai. i was counting on someone who are ready tried this for tips on how-to, so i really need some help.and how much of the roots do i cut off some people say 1/2 and others 1/3, which one works better for this kind of tree? and when do i cut the roots and trim the branches because i keep getting all kinds of diffrent answers on web-sites and books.but any help at all would be very helpfull even if you just tell me to just to plant it outside and get a diffrent kind of tree. meg
i guess i should have said this already but it’s going to be an indoor bonsai if it lives. i’ll put it out for summers but after that inside it goes. and i live in zone 6 so it’s supposed to be pretty hardy but i’m still thinking on if i want to take a chance of it dying in the winter, even though i got it for $5 today i don’t want it to die.
but i gotta say i really like the first guys attitude that basicly you don’t know til you try it the way you want to and you can try anything you want…..atleast thats what i’m getting from his answer lol but who knows i’m just a teen.=)

bonzai is the art of trimming the tree, it’s not written in stone, do what you like. they’re are no rules to it.

I bought a little bonsai palm tree from eBay, and that has been pretty successful for me, because it was already started. Some plants are not hearty enough to have their roots trimmed, as I understand it. So it’s best, if you’re new to the whole thing, to pick something that is easy to grow that way.
