Can I install a sconce light in an apartment I’m renting?

By Cut

My bedroom in my apartment is lacking lighting fixtures, and I’m thinking of installing a sconce light fixture on one wall. Is this difficult to do myself? Does anyone know?

yeah just make sure you smash the drywall in ;)

Since “renting” is the key word here, you’d better check with your landlord first.

If your in australia it depends on your land lord or government. You need permission here. If you buy the DIY kits its simple, but its not simple for all. I put in a sensor light myself and it worked fine, but I don’t recommend playing around with electricity. Good luck

You should check with your landlord. S/he might have a problem with it but, then again, they may not. If they’re really cool, they might even have it installed for you.

The job is for an experienced mechanic. Get the landlords written permission first.

You should ask and get a permission from your landlord first. Perhaps, you could install it, but I do think that you will have to take it down and plug the holes(nails or screws)when you move out the apartment. It might be easier for you to have a table lamp or floor lamp, since there will be no construction involved. Maybe your landlord will help you to install it??

Not very difficult to install if….
1. landlord gives you permission
2. electrical recpt. is already there.
3. you have some knowledge of electric.

Probably would be best to have an electrician to install due to legality reasons such as a fire.
Be sure to get receipt.

To answer your question, it might be easier than you think! check out my website: http://www.partylite.biz/danettecozzi and then click on hostess connection up at the top
enter HMB6 as the code
Click on wish list
Under Shopping Spree to the left, click on browse Catalog.
Look in the winter/spring catalog
On page 59, you’ll see some of our sconces which would be much easier than a light fixture and easy to remove upon your moving days. Any questions, just contact me via email danettecozzi@yahoo.com
Good luck!

check http://www.solutions.com or http://www.improvementscatalogue.com
they have sconces that are battery operated, and you would just need to hang them as you would a picture.

You can’t install a wall sconce if there is no wiring in the wall. I used wall sconces in my apartment a couple of years ago and I wired/converted them so I could plug them into an outlet. I painted the wire the same color as the wall and you couldn’t notice them. Converting them is not hard but if you don’t know how to do it, ask at a local light fixture store if anyone will do it for you. It may cost you $10 – $20 but its better than being without lights.
