Do wedding thank you cards have to personalized or can they be generic?

By Cut

Hi everyone! We are having our wedding in August and are already receiving wedding gifts from our registry in the mail. We are sending out thank you cards out immediately after so they don’t pile up. So we are wondering, if people have already received thank you cards for gifts before the wedding, do we need to send personal thank you cards after the wedding too? Or should we just send a more generic card with our wedding photo? Any suggestions? Thanks!

If you have already sent someone a personalized thank you for their gift, then after the wedding a generic “thank you for spending our special day with us” would be fine.

It can be anything you want.

But I recommend personalized.

Some people I’m sure put time, effort, and thought into your wedding gift.

Besides, you have 3 months to get it done.

I really like the “generic” because I don’t think it’s so generic. I was a bridesmaid for one of my cousin’s (because I am the girl from 27 dresses, of course!) and as their thank you cards they took a picture together on their wedding day and held up a really nice sign that said thank you on it. I thought it was really cute plus everyone gets a picture of you from your wedding day right away so it’s not just a waste of paper- and I would definitely not send them out prior to your wedding. It gives the impression of it being just a task without any thought, you know?

Actually you need to send only one thank you for a gift received.

I would wait and send thank you’s after the wedding. keep a notebook of all the gifts you’re receiving and who sent them. not only will it make it easier to send thank you’s RIGHT after your wedding, but it’s nice to have that list for posterity. there’s no need to send another thank you to those same people after the wedding, unless they bring you yet another gift to the wedding.

If you have several guests it may be too tedious to make it personal. But, personal thank yous definitely feels good. I think you should separate those who have been a tremendous help to your wedding, or who traveled from very far and give those people personal thank yous. Everyone else gets a generic.
