I do not personally own a foam mattress, but I have friends who say that they are a miracle, and that anyone who can get one, should get one. Apparently they are wonderful for your back, and your sleep.

Firm talalay latex with a terry cover . . and perhaps a wool fleece pad.

I own a Tempur Pedic and wouldn’t trade it for anything. It’s the best bed I’ve ever owned.
My back feels great when I get up and I don’t seem to require as much sleep, as I did with a spring coil bed.

I have one of the inexpensive Wal-Mart versions of the Tempur-Pedic and I think it’s great. I actually sleep through the night now. It may not be as good as the real thing, but it’s definitely better than an ordinary mattress.

Memory foam mattresses range in quality. $200 can buy you a made in China deal-in-a-box and $5000 is probably the top-of-the-line.
Here are some things to consider.
CONS
1) Memory foam, except for natural memory foam, is made with petroleum based chemicals and other chemicals to control the density. These chemicals have an odor similar to a paint smell.

2) Because it’s artificial, memory foam has difficulty breathing. The most common complain is the heat build up.
PROS
1) The pressure relief far surpasses any spring system.
2) They can last over 20 years.
3) You’ll fall asleep faster.
4) You wont wake up as often.
Probably the best sleep you’ll ever have.
