They all look drunk out of their minds. Also, why is Gung Ho flying that machine thing, he’s obviously not clever enough to do that and looks mildly terrified.
wait….. so was duke and the rest of the joes just posted on lady liberty waiting for cobra to implicate themselves before they could make a move….man we got to fix our laws cobra is a known ruthless terroist organization trying to rule the worl….oh wait it’s a cartoon Yo Joe!!!!
So many memories. I can still remember seeing this for the first time and actually still have a vhs tape gathering dust somewhere from the first time it was aired on public tv. And to this day this is one of the greatest intros to a movie ever if you wanna get fired up, regardelss of the fact it had nothing to do with the movie’s content. Thanks for the upload
OMG!
Gi-Joe was the best and will always be the greatest cartoon. I still have this shit (on the others) on VHS lol.
I just wish they made Rise of Cobra like this and kept the old looks and all, instead of fucking it up like they did.
COBRA LALALALALALALA!
A great intro, especially considering it has absolutely nothing to do with the movie it was supposed to be opening for. Not a single sign of Falcon, Jinx, Serpentor, Cobra-La, etc.
And also, would itt be a powerful mental blow by seeing a terrorist army invade US like that?
And also, the epxlosion may not have been the main target, They just did it because GI Joe showed up
Fair enough but what’s the difference between watching Apocalypse Now and GI Joe besides one being a cartoon? Isn’t that somewhat of a double-standard? Also, wishing for Cobra to “eliminate” anyone is a pretty aggressive wish.
In the 80’s the main boys cartoon’s were GI Joe, Transformers, Robotech, Voltron, M.A.S.K. , He-Man and Thundercats.
Those aside, there were Care Bears, Teddy Ruxpin, Rainbow Bright, JEM and My Little Pony. None of which were really for boys over 5 yrs old.
I just wish the movies being made on these cartoons would stick to the original source material and look – Michael Bay I’m talking to you specifically.

This is the greatest action history of all times. never the anime can supperate the spirit of G.I.JOE
note: And other thing, much anime ninjas are inferior to Snake eyes and Storm Shadow.

The paratroopers over the statue of liberty reminds me of the intro to Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2 in retrospect.

@palaguin I think the overspent on the intro so they had to cut WAY back. I think its pretty obvious.

In retrospect, Cobra should have sent *one* guy to plant that bomb, *before* the grand balloon-based opening ceremony.
This way was awesomer, though.
