Nothing more than 25 watts.

Your betta will welcome the heater as well -these should have water temperatures between 76-86oF.
You want to get a heater that’s 5 watts for each gallon of water unless you’ll need to raise the water temperature more than 10 degrees over the room temperature at any point during the year. Then you’d want to go to the next largest wattage. So either a 25 or 50 watt heater.
You can get one thike this: http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/group/10464/product.web which is good for smaller tanks, but you can’t adjust the temperature – it’s factory set.
I prefer ones like this one: http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/group/11431/product.web where I can adjust the temperature to what I want it to be. The only disadvantage is the height of the heater, and the rubber cap on the adjustment makes the knob harder to turn.
