How do I finish off the baby booties?

By Cut

I’m a beginner knitter and I found these simple instructions for baby booties at http://www.carewear.org/patterns/knit/knit.cfm?pid=_p11_easy_baby_booties.cfm

However, I’m not actually sure what it means to “sew seam” Can someone please help me?

Fold in half and sew the bottom and front of the bootie. Sew with the same yarn as you knitted with.

2

You basically sew the seams of the bootie together. The mattress seam ( http://knitty.com/issuespring04/mattress.html ) is a pretty basic method.

You will sew the seam up between the ankle area and the toe. There are a couple of ways of doing this. To see a couple of different ones, check this site toward the bottom of the page:
http://www.ethknits.co.uk/How-to-Knit/how_to_knit.htm

There are also a couple of videos on youtube showing different methods:
This one shows how to do a back stitch:

This one shows how to do a whip stitch (only use single yarn though):

When you have finished you need to weave the ends in so that they cannot be seen.

In this video you can see the ends being woven in and if you take careful note, you can see also that the seams have been stitched together:

Hope this helps. Good luck
