How do I fond out what network card is in my IBM thinkpad T40?

By Cut

I have a model number 2372-92U. The &#*#*(* Lenovo site has about 15 different driver packages to down load, but I can’t tell which one I need. I just reinstalled XP. It finds the net card, flags it as unknown type and gives me no details of what it is.

If you get lucky, you can use the update driver function to search Microsoft update and get a driver.

If your brave, get the maintenance manual and learn how to open and find your Wifi “card” it will usually have enough information on the outside to help you identify the driver set you need. I have heard of programs that will “read” your hardware and tell you what drivers you need but have no experience with any of them.

Once you have it all working I would make a complete copy of the hardware listing of your drivers from the device manager. You never know when you might need it again.

I have had pretty good luck with this site for drivers. It has a link to a program that is supposed to help you get the right drivers too. But the zip file might be all that you need. The *.inf files identify the drivers to the windows installer so if you get it pointed to the right folder it might find exactly what you need.
