Is it wrong to put a dog sweater on a small dog?
ByI do not dress my dogs up in dresses or shirts or anything. But I just wanted other peoples thoughts on putting dog sweaters on small dogs? I have 3 dogs 10 pounds and under.
I dont know, I just heard alot of people saying its bad to put sweaters on dogs. I have 2 yorkies and a chihuahua, they have sweaters, but the fit them right and do not cause them any discomfort. I would not put it on them if i was.

No…I do it
It is better than letting them freeze and be cold.

I don’t know, I am on the fence about dog clothes. My dog, an American Pit Bull Terrier wears a jersey on game days, but that is it. I guess they are your dogs, and if they aren’t showing any discomfort with the sweater, it is fine. Just don’t leave it on too long.

No thats perfectly fine and I bet the dogs like you even more for it! Dogs that are small dogs such as the toy group need sweaters because they can not stand the cold weather. They would be shivering a whole lot without any warmth, and I bet the dogs feel like kings and queens with their sweaters! and I bet they are cute as anything!

not at all! only if its cold out because small doggys will get cold :[ as long as you dont dress them up in ridiculous clothes, just a plain little sweater is good :]

Not at all. Little dogs like chihuahuas get cold easily, specially the smooth coats. What is wrong with keeping them warm.

Why would it be wrong? It was us humans who bred the dogs to be tiny and cold-intolerant,so we should put sweaters on them when it’s cold to keep them warm.

I have a 6 pounder myself. I normally only put her in a sweater if we are going to be outside for more then like 30 sec or if we are about to get in the car to go somewhere. While she is not hairless, her fur is very thin and i know she appreciates the extra warmth:)

No it’s not wrong if you are tring to keep the dogs warm while outside in colder weather. some dogs need that extra warmth in order to be comfortable which walking or playing outside.

no its not wrong at all in fact it is probally good. Some people here are just jerks and try to put people down, os if someone leaves a bad comment don’t be offended they are just probally having an off day

Dogs are fine to put in sweaters, small dogs especially with short fur. They could get freezing, and as long as it is to warm them and not for fun, then it is fine.

It’s perfectly fine, as long as there’s nothing stupid written on it, in terms of silly quotes or slogans, like “american dog” or whatever. Those in my opinion are ridiculous.
My little chi has a cute green wool sweater.

No, it’s not wrong. Small dogs catch chills very easily. There’s a difference between function and fashion.

no. they are small and lose heat faster then bigger dogs so it is just to keep them warm. I put it on my chihuahua all the time to stop her from shakeing and she is not as cold anymore.

Not at all.
I live in Wisconsin…it’s cold.
I put coats on my 70 and 40lb dogs when we go out and it’s really cold.
I don’t have long haired dogs, so I figure their coats are about as warm as me wearing a fall jacket…if it’s not warm enough for a fall jacket, I put coats on them. (unless we’re going out to play and run around, then they stay plenty warm on their own)

Yes it is very wrong

I’m okay with them if the dog is short haired and needs a sweater outside. I wouldn’t want my puppy to be cold. However, stuffing a dog into a little skirt with bows and hats is over the line.

well, if it is cold out side and you are taking them for a walk, i think that would be fine, but not if you are just doing it for fun. I don’t think most dogs like that kind of stuff.

no. if the dog is cold, and it fits properly, do it. i put a coat on my short-haired mini dach. he needs it, since he’s got a very short coat.

If it is cold weather, and they dont mind it at all, then I see nothing wrong with it,

please leave them on their own way

Actually it can be good for nervous or high energy dogs.
It somehow calms them down.
I read it in a book called how to live with kids and dogs, the author said that a snug shirt helps make them feel secure.

Heck I have a medium sized dog that I put a sweatshirt on…Mind you she came to me as a foster after being hit by a car so most of her front legs are metal…she gets cold easily because of those metal plates in her legs so to keep her warm when we walk, she gets a special sweatshirt.

As long as you don’t put costumes on them. A sweater or coat is fine for cold weather seasons. Since they don’t have much body mass they get cold a lot easier than big dogs.

get them a nice, snug sweater and they wont shiver and be cold!
its perfectly fine
