Brief history: The remote control

As mentioned in the introduction, the remote control can be loaded on the back of the iBoom. The multi-functional control element has in the outermost ring on the top and bottom + / – buttons to control the volume levels. Right and left outer rim buttons are placed to skip track either forward or backward. The central button is the Play-/Pause button. The four arrow keys in the second ring are used to navigate the iPod menus, and with the right arrow button one menu level down and with the left one menu level higher and so on. The menu level is also chosen with the left / right buttons. If the proper cover for the currently running song on the iPod is docked on the jukebox, it can be shown on the display of the remote control. Here you have to run the same command button to click on several occasions.

Competitive Comparison:

Philips SBD8100: Considered on the SDP8100 sounds really good. In direct comparison with the iBoom it falls behind, as space, level accuracy, clarity and bass power because iBoom are better defined.

JBL On Time 200iD: Optical quality more than iBoom, the Philips solution to the JBL counterpart on the sound performance surpass: More stress, more precision, higher level, confidently drawing attention with iBoom if compared with the On Time.

Yamaha PDX-50 Wireless iPod Docking Station: The clever idea of PDX-50 with the wireless transmission from iPod to Sound Station is still small – the acoustics are great. But Philips’ iBoom still plays solid-level and acts physically intense.

Conclusion

The crown of the iPod Sound Docks – Philips iBoom would have been even a reference – based on the category – deserves to make it in the market, if it is not a constraint for the smart phone iPhone but only for the iPod. But this is not the only real drawback compared to its price appearing for some users significantly from 250 EUR completely offset by the lower market price by a whopping $ 100. It just lacks charisma, in delicacy, to differentiate between things – but the “masses” and thus the potential customer base for a device like the Philips iBoom will interfere in any way. iBoom will replace the user’s normal requirements, even with a small stereo system, if an iPod is in the house. Thanks to the sophisticated remote control which is a fun in its own way and can be fully functional by radio. That, if present on the iPod, even the cover of the currently playing track can be displayed, which is a lovely gimmick. The flawless workmanship and the easily accessible and well functional touch controls rounds out the impressive performance of the iBoom.
