LMAO!

are you sure you want to be on this bandwagon? it’s made by Toyota and we haven’t gotten around to replacing the floor mats.

the car he was driving has push button ignition, as long as the key is in the vehicle it starts at the push of button and there isnt an off switch. the car has a safety device that doesnt allow shifting into park/neutral while accelerating to protect the transmission/engine from damage. on the 911 call he specifcally states the brakes had quit working, witnesses said his wheels were on fire a sure sign he had overheated his brakes. these people died and its toyotas fault

It’s not the floor mat only but the engine now accelerate automatic to 100+ mph…good luck with your Toyota fanboys! hahaha go buy a Honda like me and you will never see this kind of problem. What do we all learn here today? Toyota = Shit.
November 15th, 2009 at 4:31 am
how about putting the car in nutral?
November 15th, 2009 at 4:32 am
its not the mats, cuz i’ve heard people without mats in their toyota that has these problems.. poeples pedal are getting stuck and toyota is trying to save some money by sayin that its the mats.. and on the Lexus ES you cant even put it on neutral while the is in motion.. toyota is are death machine

SHITTY TOYOTA N LEXUS
November 15th, 2009 at 5:56 am
CHP officer.. even more used to high speed driving.. this is bullshit.. its not the floor matts
November 15th, 2009 at 6:11 am
It was a loaner from the dealer. The driver’s car was in for repair. The driver was an L.A county Sherriff and used to high speed driving.
Don’t make judgements.
If you were driving at 80MPH and the throttle stuck, how long till you hit 120 MPH in a powerful car like this. Dodge a slower car and hit a guard rail, that can’t happen to you. You are a good driver!
Sure.
God Bless this man and his family.
May they rest in Peace.

You may be right about that, but you can always put the car in neutral and apply your brakes until the car comes to a stop. This might of happened because people are not trained to do so in case of emergency.I think people should know more about the vehicles they drive.
November 15th, 2009 at 6:58 am
Well not many people know you have to hold their moronic start/stop button for 3 seconds to stop the car. Who knows if you can even shift it into neutral at those speeds. Lexus car are over engineered, don`t treat them like an ordinary run of the mill car.
How do you even know the floor mat was to blame?
He didnt grab his cell phone, his son in law did in the backseat. God you sure are cocky and sure of yourself, but you don`t even know the main points of the story.
November 15th, 2009 at 7:15 am
What reports? List your sources. This accident could have simply been avoided had the driver not panicked. Instead of grabbing his cell phone and calling 911 he should have made an attempt to unhook the ’slightly over sized’ floor mat or heres a crazy idea…flip it into neutral. I swear, people are so quick to blame Toyota for this mishap when it was clearly the fault of the over dramatic, dimwitted, darwin award winning driver.
November 15th, 2009 at 7:49 am
Yea but you have to hold the start button for 3 seconds to stop the car. In panic mode, the driver may have just repeatedly hit the start/stop button thinking the car would turn off.
November 15th, 2009 at 8:48 am
Your a sick fuck. It may not even be the floor mat, there are alot of reports that these cars suddenly accelerator without a floor mat. But you`d rather me a smug, sadistic fuck. You sicken me sir.
November 15th, 2009 at 9:46 am
The accelerator got stuck on the floor mat? Ladies and gentlemen we have a new contender for the Darwin award! It’s just a shame they had to take that Lexus down with them.
November 15th, 2009 at 9:54 am
The loss of life is very sad indeed. If i were driving a Lexus – or any car for that matter – I’d soon familiarize myself with the interior of the car, namely where i might shift or adjust the gearing … what do they call that thing.. … the uhh.. umm TRANSMISSION! Perhaps lexus should require a ‘common sense exam’ to ensure you have just as much brains as you do money. So.. he passed?
November 15th, 2009 at 10:52 am
This reminds me of the Onion News Network stories. How the heck did this happen?
November 15th, 2009 at 11:45 am
Its very sad,but turning off the engine would help slow the car down to a stop.
November 15th, 2009 at 12:42 pm
in order for the gas pedal to stick on the floormat, the gas pedal would have had to been pushed to the floor. so it sounds like he was driving with accelerated speeds to begin with.
how hard would it have been to put the car in neutral and pull up the emergency brake? there wasn’t much common sense in that car, even between 4 people.
November 15th, 2009 at 1:35 pm
so… there was no key in the car to shut it off…. or en emergency brake? or couldn’t put it in neutral/park/reverse? and he shouldn’t have pumped his brakes. if you pump your brake when your holding the gas down they will harden up… he was a cop for gods sake. wtf were they teaching him in cop school
November 15th, 2009 at 1:42 pm
well like i said in the other post…the tierods breaking on the same truck in japan and toyota said nothing here untill 9 years later…what were they waiting for?..what took them so looooong to make an effort to do something here in the state’s..i’m sorry…almost a decade went by before toyota spoke up …and thats sad
November 15th, 2009 at 2:25 pm
hey..i agree its a stupid recall, but even this toyota had trouble with this exact same thing 3 years ago…and what did they do?..nothing…now the shit is hitting the fan and now they are forced to do something
November 15th, 2009 at 2:39 pm
Consumer reports does not share your points of view. Tundras and Titans got reallllllly popular here in Arizona after the ford mess up concerning the water gasket of the powerstroke. You know, ford could have fixed it, but guess what? They didn’t!
November 15th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
just like toyotas flimsy tailgates that collapse ..or the premature failure of tie rod ends that toyota knew about 9 years earlier in japan but did nothing here in the states till 9 years later …or slip yokes breaking..so toyota is no better
November 15th, 2009 at 3:47 pm
Let me break it down for you,
floor mat = 35 dollars
power stroke motor = 9,000
I have had floor mats in other vehicles give me a problem, its strange, if you reach down and pull the floor mat BACK the problem goes away… Growing up in Alaska, the snow and ice built up on the dumb things you just pulled htem out, they turned into skates when you stepped on them.
Toyota has had problems, but they didn’t throw me to the wolves EVER. Ford and dodge did, I hope they die.
