Where is the best place to get authentic black pearls in Tahiti (Papeete or Moorea)?

By Cut

I am going for my honeymoon to Tahiti (Papeete and Moorea) next month. I would like to purchase a black pearl necklace for myself. Do you know any cheap place that sell authentic black pearls? How much does it usually cost? What is the best size/color for the black pearls?

A lot of people have recommended the pearl shop within the Tahiti airport. I bought my pearls from Tahia Collins on Moorea. The shop is on the western side of the island, not too far from the Petit Village. The people there were very helpful and informative. The pearls weren’t cheap, but if you want jewelry-grade pearls you’ll have to pay for them. I think my pearl was about $180. Normally they’re only sold with the post, because the taxes on a gold chain would be way too high.

The color is up to you. My pearl is a dark grey. I bought one for my mom that’s dark green and one for my MIL that’s medium-to-dark green. The size is your choice, but the bigger the pearl, the bigger the price tag. Pearls are also graded on a scale from A-D. A’s have the fewest “spots” and are perfectly round (btw, there are different shaped pearls, which can also affect the price).
