Why are Mason jars used by businesses commercially?

By Cut

Mason jars are the favorite of home canners everywhere, of course, as they are sturdy, reusable and reliable. However, businesses use them to package their own goods, such as spaghetti sauce.

I don’t understand why the companies don’t buy plain jars, and wonder if the consumer is supposed to keep the Mason jar that the product came in? We can’t can in them, as they don’t have the proper tops.

You can buy the tops separately at many places, including online from Ball.

Well, they’ve been around since your great great grandma.
You can buy seals and lids at just about any wal mart, or grocery store.
To me, they seem to be a more stronger jar then lets say a mayonnaise jar, the glass is so much thinner in jars like that.
You can take them, wrap wire around them, take another piece of wire and make a hanging candle holder out of them, if you don’t want to use them to re can anything, or just use them for storage or for change, instead of throwing them out….just a helpful hint….

I think it is a selling point. To make them look more “homey”.
